چکیده
Quantification of infrared (IR) radiation is a convenient, noncontact method for making the base metal temperature measurements needed for on-line feedback controls. However, the problem of interference from the arc is a complicating factor in applying IR temperature sensing to welding. The objective of this research is to implement and test a top-face, noncontact temperature measurement system based on optical pyrometry. Investigations relating to the development of an infrared temperature measurement system are described. An apparatus consisting of a fiberoptic cable, a silicon photodiode/power meter and a computer data acquisition system were configured and used for the tests. Results of the experiments showed that radiation from both the arc and the hot tungsten electrode were important sources of interference in the IR emissions from the base metal. Attenuation of the interfering radiation using a bandpass optical filter and a specially-designed gas cup was investigated. Finally, the sensing system was calibrated using thermocouple measurements of actual base metal temperature.

Work-related asthma has been documented in workers employed in the primary aluminium industry and in the production of aluminium salts. The role of aluminium in the development of occupational asthma has, however, never been convincingly substantiated. We investigated a subject who experienced asthmatic reactions related to manual metal arc welding on aluminium. Challenge exposure to aluminium ...

متن کاملIn situ optical measurement of liquid drop surface tension in gas metal arc welding
The surface tension of detached liquid drops in pulsed gas metal arc welding was determined in situ from the period of the prolate–oblate oscillations initiated by the detachment event. The oscillating drops were imaged by an optical shadowgraph technique utilizing laser illumination. Images obtained during the welding process were recorded with a high-speed video camera and stored for subseque...
